Open Access (OA) Policy
Neewaj is an open-access publisher. All research articles we publish are made immediately and permanently available to read, download, copy, redistribute and reuse under a liberal open licence. This single, publisher-level OA policy applies to every journal published by Neewaj and is designed to ensure maximum discoverability, reuse and long-term preservation while meeting funder and indexer expectations.
Quick summary (what you need to know)
- Immediate OA on publication — no embargo.
- Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) for the Version of Record (VOR) and for any files the author places under the same licence.
- DOI: Each published article is assigned a DOI via Zenodo.
- Archiving: The Version of Record is archived on Internet Archive and SSRN.
- APC: USD 200 (charged only for accepted articles; waivers available). APC status does not affect open access availability.
- Preprints: Allowed. Posting a preprint does not count as prior publication.
- Self-archiving: Authors are free to self-archive preprints, author accepted manuscripts (AAM) and the published Version of Record (VOR) — see details below.
- Text & data mining: Permitted under CC BY 4.0.
- Third-party material: Authors must obtain and declare permission for any third-party copyrighted content not covered by CC BY.
- Licence & rights
CC BY 4.0 — what it means
- The VOR is published under CC BY 4.0, which allows others to copy, redistribute, remix, transform and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial reuse, provided appropriate credit is given, a link to the licence is provided, and changes are indicated.
- Authors retain copyright. Upon acceptance, authors grant Neewaj a non-exclusive licence to publish the work and to carry out all necessary publication and archiving tasks. Authors are free to place the work in institutional or subject repositories, personal websites, or funder repositories.
What authors must do
- Grant Neewaj permission to publish the VOR and to mint a DOI via Zenodo.
- Confirm that third-party materials included in the manuscript either are covered by a compatible licence or that explicit permission for reuse under CC BY has been obtained and documented.
- When is the article open?
- Immediately on publication. There is no embargo period: the article and any associated supplementary files designated for public release are openly available under CC BY 4.0 from the date the Version of Record is published and the DOI is minted.
- Preprints, accepted manuscripts and Version of Record (self-archiving)
Preprints
- Authors are permitted and encouraged to post preprints (e.g., arXiv, bioRxiv) prior to submission. Posting a preprint will not prejudice consideration and does not count as prior publication. Authors should cite the preprint when submitting and may update the preprint with a link to the VOR and DOI once published.
Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM)
- Authors may deposit the AAM (the peer-reviewed, accepted version but prior to publisher layout/typesetting) in institutional or subject repositories at any time. We recommend linking the AAM to the published Version of Record and adding the DOI when available.
Version of Record (VOR)
- The final, published article (VOR) on the journal site and in Zenodo is licensed CC BY 4.0 and may be reused immediately. Authors may also deposit the VOR in repositories where permitted by repository policy.
- Archiving & persistent identifiers
- Each article receives a DOI via Zenodo.
- The Version of Record and selected supporting files are archived on Internet Archive and SSRN to ensure long-term preservation.
- Authors are encouraged to deposit underlying datasets and code in subject-specific repositories and to include persistent identifiers (DOIs) for datasets in the Data Availability Statement.
- Text & data mining (TDM)
- CC BY 4.0 explicitly permits text and data mining for any purpose. Researchers and third parties may mine Neewaj content without requesting additional permission, provided they give appropriate credit and comply with other applicable law.
- Third-party content and permissions
- Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for any third-party content (images, large excerpts, tables, figures) that is not covered by a compatible open licence. Permissions should permit republication under CC BY or the author must supply an alternative licensed version or clearly identify material excluded from the CC BY licence in the article.
- If third-party content is excluded from CC BY, authors must include a credit line indicating the limitations and supply evidence of permission.
- Open data & supplementary materials
- Authors must include a Data Availability Statement describing where data, code and materials supporting the article can be accessed (including DOIs where available) or explaining restrictions.
- We strongly encourage deposition of data in recognized public repositories (Zenodo, discipline repositories, institutional repositories). Data and code can be licensed by the author under any licence they choose; when data are published alongside the VOR as part of the article package, we recommend applying an open licence (e.g., CC0 or CC BY) to maximize reuse and compliance with funder mandates.
- Compliance with funder and institutional mandates
- Neewaj’s immediate OA under CC BY 4.0 is compatible with most major funder mandates and indexing requirements. Authors with specific funder or institutional requirements (for example, particular metadata fields or repository deposit workflows) should inform the editorial office at submission so we can assist.
- Authors remain responsible for meeting any deposit or metadata requirements specified by their funders (e.g., depositing data in a required repository).
- APCs and OA
- The APC (USD 200) covers costs of peer review administration, DOI registration (Zenodo), production, hosting and archiving. APCs are invoiced after acceptance.
- Waivers and discounts are available and are handled independently of editorial decisions. Waiver decisions do not affect open access: a waived article is still published under CC BY 4.0.
- Recommended author wording (use in your manuscript and deposit records)
Citation to include on deposits, preprints or repository records after publication:
Author(s). (Year). Title. Journal Name (Neewaj). Version of Record: DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.xxxxxx. Licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Recommended licence statement (to appear on the article page and PDF):
This article is distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), which permits unrestricted reuse, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited.
- Exceptions and sensitive content
- Sensitive or restricted data: For ethical or legal reasons (e.g., privacy, confidentiality, commercial restrictions), authors may not be able to make underlying data public. In such cases authors must provide a Data Availability Statement explaining the restriction and how qualified researchers can request access where appropriate. The article itself will remain open under CC BY unless specific parts are legally restricted; authors must clearly mark any restricted materials.
- Embargo requests: Because Neewaj operates immediate OA under CC BY, embargo requests for the VOR are not accepted. If authors must delay public release of certain supplementary files for legitimate legal/ethical reasons, they should explain this in the Data Availability Statement and contact the editorial office.
- Enforcement & compliance
- Neewaj will ensure that the published article and its metadata clearly indicate the CC BY 4.0 licence and DOI, and will supply machine-readable licence and DOI metadata to indexing and discovery services.
- Suspected licence misuse or breach of third-party permissions will be handled under the Ethics & Integrity Policy.
- Frequently asked practical questions
Q: Can I reuse my published figures in a book or teaching slides?
A: Yes. CC BY 4.0 permits reuse (including commercial reuse) provided you give appropriate credit and indicate any changes.
Q: Can I post the published PDF on my institutional website?
A: Yes. The VOR is CC BY 4.0 and may be posted immediately.
Q: Can I place the article behind a paywall on an institutional repository?
A: No — the VOR we publish is open and should remain accessible. If you deposit in a repository, ensure the deposited version is openly accessible or clearly linked to the VOR.
Q: Who handles APC payment if my funder supports publication?
A: You may provide funder/institution billing details at acceptance so invoicing can be handled directly. Waiver options are available if no funding exists.
